If you’re of a mind to punish yourself with my short list of published works to date, since I’m still in my egregious infancy as a would-be writer, do so at your own risk:
Please be sure to also visit the “Current Projects” page. I’d love to hear from you, critically or otherwise.
So, why does an avid amateur radio aficionado, sailor, kayaker and techno-junky, among other interests of dubious provenance such as amateur photography, decide he wants to write? Not sure. Toughest thing I’ve ever tackled, also one of the most gratifying. Go figure. I‘m ex-Coast Guard search-and-rescue, ex-advertising executive, ex-IBM research and development executive, ex-sky diver, ex-scuba diver, guess that means I can’t keep a job or hold an interest. Hmmmm. Next?
My bucket list, at least at this moment, includes playing a non-obnoxious guitar, breaking a score of ninety on the links, exceeding twenty-five words per minute copying CW (Morse code), selling at least one photgraph professionally and bomb-proofing the ole eskimo roll.
Even though this is a writing blog, you’ll notice I haven’t mentioned writing the great American novel on my bucket list. That, I’m hoping, will just be for extra credit. Besides, wouldn’t that be just a tad presumptuous? Right now I’m quite content to diligently and passionately pursue the crafts of writing and photography, both of which involve painting a vivid image in someone else’s eye.
I love gadgets. That fits well with my self-diagnosed attention deficit syndrome since I move on before a gadget is obsolete, but usually after it needs fixing. What was I saying, again?
My life partner of forty short years, Kay, is a fanatic planner. She plans everything. Only problem is that she does it so darn well that it makes ole Geno here look like a bumbling oaf, contrary to my own very high opinion of himself, of course…
Daughter Michelle is driven. She knows where to, apparently, but some of the rest of us mere mortals aren’t quite sure. But that’s very OK.
Son Adam has surprised us all by blossoming into an outstanding single parent of three. Of course, these three grandchildren invade Kay’s thoughts incessantly and add copiously to our frequent flyer accounts.
Many others we love and cherish. Too numerous to mention right now. Maybe later. So check back often
With Pen in Hand,
Gene
Hey Gene, this is Michael Barnes I go to RCTC in Rochester, MN. I am doing a personal profile for my news writing class and I was wondering if I could do the story on you and interview you. I have an English class with an ex co-worker of yours from IBM, Tim McLaughlin, and I was asking around for a person that went to RCTC and has an interesting story and is successful. Tim told me about you being retired from IBM and sailing around the world. So let me know if you would be okay with me interviewing you and doing a personal profile story about you, I left my e-mail. This is the only way I could contact you to ask you because Tim said he didn’t have an e-mail or a phone number.
